"If you use a powerstrip at your workstation, it may as well be an Ecostrip."
How much will I really save with the Ecostrip?
The answer to this question depends on the number of peripheral devices you have connected. The bottom line is this - you will save something; whether it's just a small amount because you have only one LCD monitor configured, or you can save a lot more if you have a printer, monitor, speakers, and more. The old monikor "every little bit helps" really hits home. If you use a powerstrip at your workstation, it may as well be an Ecostrip.
In many cases significantly more energy savings will be gained because more people will be turning off their computers in the first place. Many of us leave our computers on, or we turn off our computers but leave our peripherals on. If we can help develop the habit of turning computers off and in turn shut down power to our peripherals, the energy saving potential is significantly increased.
Why can't I just flip the switch off on my regular powerstrip?
You can! And if you are in the habit of doing so consistently more power to you. The Ecostrip is designed to automate this process and our mission is to help increase awareness of energy waste caused by phantom load. In many situations, especially in a big office complex, it is much easier to implement a companywide policy to shut down the computer when employees leave for the day, rather than ask 100's or 1000's of employees to crawl under their desk before they leave to switch off their powerstrip.
We are environmentalists at heart. Our mission is to help promote conservation. If you are in the habit of turning off your powerstrip then the Ecostrip is not for you. If you aren't, we would much rather you get into the habit of swtiching off your powerstrip than replacing a perfectly good strip which you may already have. But, if you plan on buying a new powerstrip or you find it physically easier to automate, the Ecostrip offers a very simple, effective, and affordable solution. If you are replacing an existing powerstrip please make sure you donate it to a charity or recycle it properly.
Doesn't turning computers and peripherals on and off everyday put more stress on the them and therefore shorten their lifespan?
It's a myth that it takes more energy to start a computer than to keep it running. It doesn't. You'll always save energy by turning your computer off when you're not using it. And no, you won't wear your computer out any faster by cycling it once a day, or even a few times a day. Modern computers aren't that fragile. I did hardware troubleshooting at Apple, I know what I'm talking about. If you don't believe me, maybe you'll believe Jonathan Koomey, a project scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, who says, "PCs are not hurt by turning them on and off a few times a day."

Is there any software or does the operating system detect the Ecostrip as hardware which requires installation of device drivers?
No. The Ecostrip is a standalone device that requires no software or drivers which interface with the computer operating system.
How is the Ecostrip different from other products on the market?
The Ecostrip is unique because it is the only device on the market which offers complete control to the user. The Ecostrip does not shut down your peripherals when your computer goes into standby or hibernation mode. Our device does not attempt to second guess the user by making assumptions that if your computer is in standby you are done printing, faxing, or using other devices which you may have plugged into the controlled sockets. Additionally, other systems may require you to place your computer on longer standby cycles or adjust power management settings on your computer, reducing other energy saving configurations you may already have in use.
The USB Ecostrip is the only device on the market that has a patent on the USB functionality that allows the user to shut down power to computer peripherals when you turn off your computer.
Most importantly, as a company we are different. Our focus is 100% on doing more to protect the environment. We donate to charity, we share wealth and knowledge, and we will continually reinvest in the development of technologies that help reduce waste and increase sustainability.
